In August, 2012, San Francisco’s immigrant community was waiting to see if Governor Jerry Brown would pass the TRUST Act. If passed, the bill would have eased the requirements placed on California law enforcement officials by the Secure Communities Program, a federal program that compels local law enforcement to track the immigration statuses of people they arrest.
